On Friday, August 21, Sacramento Job Corps hosted the largest graduation in the history of the center with over 73 graduates assembled to walk across the stage and to receive their honors and certificates of completion. The day was also significant, in that, it was a National Day of Graduation for all 127 Job Corps Centers. The graduates came from every trade with completions and with high school diplomas from Penn Foster and SIATech as well as GED certificates. Our key note speaker, Dr. Clarence M. Lee, Jr., MD, MBA, USAF and author of “Well, My Mom Says” was inspirational and engaging as each graduate was also presented a copy of Dr. Lee’s book. Representatives from the offices of Senator Barbara Boxer, Congressman Ami Bera. Congresswoman Doris Matsui, Assemblyman Ken Cooley and Assemblyman Jim Cooper all congratulated our graduates and gave out the following awards. MOST IMPROVED MOST OUTSTANDING Trevon Hutcherson, Landscaping Nicole Delk, Security Eliza James, CMA Darrell Dinwiddle, Plastering Jan Metlenko, HEO Shawnecia Hill, HEQ Kellan Phonesavanh, MAA Tommy Jones, CMA Nina Tran, CNA Roxanne Stone, CNA James Yeager, Carpentry Pamela Xiong, MAA Our student speaker, Nina Tran, made a short yet meaningful speech that was well-received and was also heartfelt. Family, friends, and staff were treated to the joy of our students in their moment of glory and accomplishment…the Recreation Center was packed!!! The event was emceed by Ms. Monique Osborne and the Center was represented by our Center Director, Ms. Erica Evans. Mr. Will Hampton, from our operator, MJLM (McConnell, Jones, Lanier, and Murphy, LLP), certified our graduates and with a turn of a tassel….over 73 SJCC students were validated for their hard work, persistence, and courage as SJCC Graduates! Although, this was the largest group of SJCC graduates in the history of the Center…there is another graduation coming
