For years, Roswell has had great pride in have the Roswell Job Corps Center as part of its fabric. The talents of the students and commitment from local business and organizations have created a positive image, if Job Corps is involved it is going to be a good event. This was highlighted by local radio and the news paper as Roswell Job Corps Center celebrated is commencement ceremonies.
Commencement day at the Roswell Job Corps Center has always been a big deal. The center takes the event to an up scale venue, and go all out on the pomp and circumstance. On riday, August 26th after months of planning and preparation, graduation was here again. Master of ceremonies and academic manager Amy Briggs kept the ceremony moving rapidly along as three of the graduates spoke to their fellow graduates, friends and family about what this should mean to all of them. CDSS Director Malyn Smith read a letter from New Mexico Governor Susanna Martinez, appologizing that she was not able to attend, but very proud of their accomplishments. Governor Martinez has met three of the graduates from this year’s commencement. Character Counts of Chaves County awarded a inspired student with the student of the year award. All this wrapped up with key note speaker Dorrie Faubus McCarty whose life journey has been one of overcoming obsticles and succeeding in a world that still stigmatized women. 66 students walked the stage to celebrate their accomplishments. The crowd raised to its feet incelebration for this past great year of accomplishment.
