Office Administration students spent Tuesday, February 2 at a variety of Sullivan County locations job shadowing a number of career fields throughout the day. Students participated in job shadowing at the Sullivan County Courthouse, which included the Commissioners’ office, the Treasurer’s office, the Sheriff’s office and the Register and Recorder’s office. Students Ed Ortiz, Trezonne Gray and Thomas Pettigrew made plans to return to the courthouse so they could observe the next court session date on March 3. These students are interested in careers in corrections and probation. Tajsia Thompson spent the day at the area newspaper, The Sullivan Review. Interested in journalism, and eager to write, Tajsia followed a staff reporter and will have an article published in next week’s edition. She has also been invited back for a second job shadowing opportunity by publishers John and Christine Shoemaker. Amanda Papp job shadowed at the Sullivan County Conservation District. Starting off with the weekly staff meeting, Amanda learned about each job and what the conservation district is all about. She said that she learned a lot about their role with the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and keeping it clean as well as some time spent with Sullivan County 4-H Coordinator Sandy Pardoe. Thank you conservation district manager Jacqlyn Rouse for your guidance with our student. Additionally, throughout the month of February, students in all trades attend job shadow opportunities, as well as tour career-related facilities and host career-related speakers.
