Red Rock Wins Region II Academic and Career Skills Olympic Competition

Hard work and considerable preparation paid off for the Red Rock Job Corps Academic Olympic team as it defeated a field of five teams to win the Regional District II championship of the East Coast Academic and Career Olympics Competition. The competition was held on August 24 at the Ramada Inn, Wilkes-Barre, and host team Red Rock competed against students from Loring Job Corps Center, Limestone, ME; Delaware Valley Job Corps Center, Callicoon, NY, Iroquois Job Corps Center, Medina, NY; Northlands Job Corps Center, Vergennes, VT; and Westover Job Corps Center, Chicopee, MA. The local team included Devon Burns (captain), Michael Fred, Zack Marriott, Jeremy Sohle, Kyle Donovan and Angie Layana. They were led by coaches, Gary Hetsko, Red Rock Job Corps information systems manager, and Harry Kocylowski, auto collision repair instructor. The students now advance to national competition on October 6 in Ocean City, MD, and compete against district winners from Potomac Job Corps, Washington, D.C, and Old Dominion Job Corps, Monroe, VA.
