Staff and students had a chance to speak with US Rep. Lou Barletta on Wednesday, August 17 during a breakfast held by the Columbia-Montour Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau at Bloomsburg University’s Greenley Center in Bloomsburg. The former Mayor of Hazleton, Congressman Barletta has been a longtime supporter of Job Corps, having the Keystone Job Corps Center in his backyard in Drums, PA. He spoke with Red Rock SGA Vice President Solomon Donaldson and Auto Tech student, Tyler Bland, who also resides within Congressman Barletta’s district. They discussed how the Job Corps program and Red Rock has provided them with opportunities they probably wouldn’t have had otherwise. They also briefly discussed the Y2Y Partners for Peace initiative and how it could work in conjunction with the SHINE program, an after school program to assist with eliminating gang violence within Luzerne and Carbon counties.
