The Academic Staff observed National Donut Day on Friday, June 3 by passing out donuts to students in the high school. National Donut Day, celebrated in the United States, is on the first Friday of June each year, succeeding the Doughnut Day event created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor their members who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. National Donut Day started in 1938 as a fund-raiser for Chicago’s The Salvation Army. Their goal was to help those in need during the Great Depression, and to honor The Salvation Army “Lassies” of World War I, who served doughnuts to soldiers. Shown are students Abraham Logan, far left, and Anu Magar, choosing a donut. With them, is Academic Manager Justin Udzella. In the second photo, students Betty Fikre, Amy Lloyd and Guillermo Quintero choose their treats.
