Ramey Job Corps students from the LPN & Culinary Arts trades who provided community service to the west region elder´s community in a health fair called: Recordar es Vivir (Remembering is Living). Approximately 200 elders received health clinics & green awareness, music and lunch.  The event held on December 13th, 2011 was offered by  multiple organizations, governmental agencies, and entities.

The communities itself demand these health clinics; they either contact us directly or even our partners. Ramey Job Corps´s community service most active partner, other than the governmental agencies, is the San Antonio Lion´s Club. Almost every month Ramey Job Corps join a team of community partners to provide health and green awareness clinics to neighbors of all ages; concentrating more into serving the elders.

Ramey Job Corps has three pairs of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) student groups, lead by three Professional Nurses (Instructors). One of the LPN trade groups is taught in English, not in Puerto Rico´s first language, which is Spanish. Therefore, the community, as well as the LPN Bilingual students, enjoys so much helping many of those patients who try it´s best to practice the English they´d learned at school.

Sometimes the curiosity or preoccupation on the glucose, heart pressure or weight clinics´ results or shot, make them nervous. May be they think they´ll get a negative result, and among laughter while the student practice his/her Spanish, and the patient his/her English; the patient relaxes and finds out. The LPN students are always supervised by their Teacher and not only serve the communities in parks, special events, among so many possibilities; but they have and can provide health clinics in private businesses upon request to the Job Corps Liaison Office.
