Ramey, 08/08/12- The ASVAB test is offered once yearly on Center to students and other community students, in coordination with the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) located in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. This year, 10 students from center took it and five from the schools nearby our Job Corps community.
Ramey Job Corps encourages students to use the ASVAB studying guides available in the electronic library at the Academic Bldg. and to get the assistance from all the Academic & Technical Career Teachers available from 3:30pm to 5:00pm – Monday through Friday for tutoring support.
According to Dr. Janet E. Wall in the McGraw-Hill’s ASVAB 2nd Ed. Study guide; “the ASVAB is a group of individual aptitude tests. Each test measures something that is important for military entrance or for acceptance into training programs for certain military jobs.
The ASVAB can be taken by students in grades 10, 11, and 12 and those in postsecondary schools. The test is in English; therefore, interested students must know the language to be able to pass the test. Many students take the ASVAB in order to help them identify their strengths and weakness and to help them seek out and explore careers and jobs. Active results expire in two years upon the day when the exam was taken.
The test offered on Center is the paper-and-pencil ASVAB, this one is offered as follows:
- General Science ( 11 minutes / 25 questions)
- Arithmetic Reasoning (36 minutes / 30 questions)
- Word Knowledge ( 11 minutes / 35 questions)
