On Monday, January 2, 2017, the BCL attended the Swearing-In Ceremony for the newly elected Council of the District of Columbia. The ceremony was held at the Washington Convention Center. Remarks were given by Mayor Muriel Bowser, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes-Norton and  Karl Racine, Attorney General of the District of Columbia and several other city officials. Several Council Members vowed to focus on improving the quality of education in the District, as well as the increase in wages.
