Potomac Job Corps Center’s Y2Y and SGA hosted a “Male Empowerment Session” on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Community partners Rickie Proctor and Ian Herron with the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management spoke to our male population in regard to the importance of being a man of character, integrity and purpose. The focus was on maximizing their time while in job corps. These were a few questions that the students were asked to ponder. 1) As a man who’s life will you effect? 2) Have you set goals for your life? 3) Do you have a positive role model or mentor? With the increase of violence within the Washington Metropolitan Area, the students were encouraged to stay focused on their futures and to make wise choices.
There was great participation from the student body. The desire was expressed to conduct these meetings monthly.
