Collegiate Outreach

Potomac Job Corps’ Collegiate Outreach Program offered six students the opportunity to visit colleges in the Washington, D. C. area. The first and most anticipated college was Howard University.  The Howard University Outreach staff arranged the tour to offer real time classroom experience and to alert the Potomac Job Corps students to the many evening and off-campus activities Howard’s students enjoy. The Potomac Job Corps staff prepared students prior to each college visit on how to navigate the process of finding the college which is the best fit for the student such as, comparisons between large and small schools, public and private, coed and non-coed are some of the characteristics considered in making the decision. Students repeatedly express the importance of a comfortable campus atmosphere and environment when selecting a two-year and four-year college. During these visits, Howard University and Prince George’s Community College, tour guides shared the many aspects of pre-enrollment requirements.
