LIKE THE DITTY BAGS of personal care items (shampoo, toothpaste, masks, etc.) all new students are given when they arrive on campus, staff received their bags: cleaning kits to ensure classrooms & offices are kept safe. Beyond the cleaning, masks, and social distancing, the arrival of the first group of students this month (who had been virtually enrolled back in May) seemed like old times. The Center’s trades in automotive, medical, and construction were busy providing hands-on technical training, while in-person academic classes got down to business in preparing students for the TASC test or to earn their high school diploma. What we have learned from this new crop of students is that it took more motivation, self-discipline, and daily encouragement than many thought they had or needed to get here. Congratulations to them – and those following close behind. Your journey in Job Corps is just getting going.
