Pittsburgh Understands The Irish Heritage

If you are not of Irish descent, you soon want to be when the Irish Festival is held in Pittsburgh.  This was the 21st. year for the event which occurred Sept. 9-11, 2011.  It was the fourth year that PJCC students were involved behind the scenes.   Ten culinary arts students cut and chopped vegetables for Irish stew and ham and cabbage.  In all, they spent a total of 24 volunteer hours. The event serves over 4,000 people.  The venue is in Homestead along the river.  Besides the food, there are several stages  for Irish dancing, singing, bag pipes, and bands.  Retail vendors are stacked with Irish goods to sell and on Sunday they celebrate with an Irish Mass.
