The Pittsburgh Mentoring Program, under the coordination of Toni Bauer, worked on a community service project in April. Mentors and their mentees put together Easter baskets for the Children of Turtle Creek Valley Mental Health/Mental Retardation organization. On passing Cafe B, where the event took place on center, you could hear laughter and see cellophane, ribbon, buckets, and toys spread on the tables. The pairs of staff/students helped one another make decisions on what should go in their basket for a 4 year old female, or a 3 year old male child, or an infant. Each mentor/mentee was assigned a speific child and given one toy to begin the event. In all, 24 baskets were contributed. Ms. Bauer, said that this turned out to be a fun way to help the community and resulted in some serious bonding between the mentors/mentees.
