Pittsburgh Job Corps is Making a Difference in Children’s Lives

You can never start too young preparing for a career.  With that in mind, PJCC Drug/alchol counselor, Denise Thompson who is also a parent of a second grader, made arrangements to visit the school that her son attends.  The Imagine Penn Hills charter school for K-2nd  grade had been working on interviews and job titles in their regular curriculum when Ms. Thompson approached the principal and asked if she could conduct a career assembly for them.  Eight  PJCC students and several staff accompanied Ms. Thompson to the event.  PJCC students were dressed in their shop uniforms, Leadership Training uniforms, or standard of dress.  They each spoke about the careers they are preparing to enter.  The PJCC students were representing the construction, health occupations, and culinary arts industry clusters.  Ms. Thompson also designed a game for the children so that they could win prizes.  There were prizes for all 250 students even if they did not get selected for the games.  PJCC dental hygienist, Hillary McClain also demonstrated the proper way to brush their teeth so that they would have healthy mouths and appearance as they apply for the jobs at their school.  The children were setting up a small town where they represent a city council, safety officers, judges, and small business owners and their  employees.
