Pittsburgh Job Corps Has Artists In Its Midst

Five students from the Pittsburgh Job Corps Center received top cash awards at the Regional Level in the 2011 Fine Arts Contest Competition.  In addition, this is the first year that PJCC has ever had a student win the Best of Show Award, valued at $250.

Celine Nista, Supervisor of the Recreation and Evening Program at PJCC and coordinator along with her team tells how it all adds up statistically from start to finish:

Center Level Competition:  135 entries, judged by 17 staff members, resulting in 22 winners from all 11 categories, represented by 15 students.

Preliminary selections at the Regional Level: 18 entries were selected as semi-finalists from the 22 sent, represented by 7 students. from PJCC.

Finalists at the Regional Level:  11 entries selected out of the 18 semi-finalists, represented by 5 students, for total cash prize winnings of $925.00!

The Region II Fine Arts competition is an annual event.  It provides a public exhibit to encourage student interest in arts involvement.  Following the finals, the art is displayed and many pieces are marked for sale.  The contest has an arts festival atmosphere and provides center-wide involvement in a celebration of the arts.
