Pittsburgh is Leveling the Playing Field Through WBL/Pittsburgh Enjoys Working Partnership

Work Based Learning is preparing Pittsburgh Job Corps youth for the real world of work.  Recent projects coordinated by Karen Bobick and Kenneth Vaughan focus on green initiatives.  Under the instruction of Cliff Nabuda, Electrician Helper students at the Pittsburgh Job Corps Center continue to develop a relationship with Energy Independent Solutions.  Former PJCC student, Martin Bovee is currently a construction foreman for this company.  Joe Morinville, energy consultant and Martin visited the Center in February to discuss solar panels and their installation.  Since then the relationship has developed into a working partnership.  Discussions also centered on the students assisting with the installation of the solar array at the new addition of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Oakland.   Construction will begin on August 5, 2011.  Students can complete several items on their training achievement records because of this enterprise which uses the practical application of their skills.
