Pinellas County Job Corps Carpentry Students joined Florida Carpenters by teaming with Solid Platforms to build a 30’ tall toy tower for radio station WILD 94.1’s 11th annual toy drive in Tampa Bay.

The students got hands-on experience while volunteering for an incredible cause, The Children’s Home Network. The Network is a non-profit organization that serves as a sanctuary for abused, neglected or abandoned children in the community.

To attract as many potential donors as possible, Program Director Orlando Davis camped out in the tower for eight days, all the while asking listeners to find a way to donate bicycles, toys, cash and gift cards to this year’s drive.

“These are listeners that we know and that we hear from all the time but we don’t get to really see the face of the voice,” said Davis. “Then we get to see them giving with their families and we’re part of their holiday.”

Donations were still trickling in at the time of this post. The goal is to beat last year’s record which included more than 565 bicycles, 4 Full POD containers of toys and over $110,417 in cash and gifts cards.
