PCJCC Carpentry Students Rebuild Boardwalk

PCJCC Carpentry Students Rebuild Boardwalk

Today we are celebrating community service and work-based learning opportunities for our Pinellas County Job Corps carpentry students.  When the local carpentry union reached out to Job Corps about a non-profit in need of help, the instructor and students were quick to agree. This Children’s Home Network site in Tampa is dedicated to foster care, on campus and within the neighboring community. The boardwalk between dorms and the elementary school had become unsafe. Now, eight of our students, under the supervision of their instructor and the local carpentry union—are rebuilding this vital boardwalk and railings. It’s giving the students incredible hands-on experience.

Senior Director of Administration Doug Bolin had this to say: “Wonderful is the best way I can put it. The students are very focused and professional, friendly.  I am very impressed. The way this has worked out has been fantastic.”
