Phoenix Job Corp Student Leaders Present Councilman Michael Johnson’s with Award

Members of the Student Leaders of Jobs Corps visited Michael Johnson to present him with a Certificate of Appreciation for all of the support he has given the Phoenix Job Corps Center. The Phoenix Job Corps Center is in Councilman Johnson’s district that he frequently visits often.

Councilman Johnson spoke of his humble beginnings at 17 years of age enrolling in the Phoenix OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Center) Program, a program similar to Job Corps. He received training as a police cadet in that program and went on to spend 15 years in the homicide division of South Phoenix before seeking public office. He is currently on his last term.

Councilman Johnson encouraged the leaders of Job Corps to take every opportunity because, “it is the timing of life’s circumstance’s that make opportunity.” The student leaders also received a bonus in their visit; a meeting with Phoenix Mayor, Phil Gordon. The students took in a breath taking view of the city atop the City Hall Building.

This event was sponsored by the Phoenix Job Corps Career Transition Team who coordinated the activity. Several members of the student leadership attended the African American Legislative Symposium sponsored by Councilman Johnson back in April.
