Several students who remained on center during the Winter Break had an opportunity to go hiking on the mountains of Arizona. On Saturday, 12/18/10, ESL Instructor, Ms. Tselykovskikh took several students to the Kiwanis Trail and part of the U.S. National Trail. They visited the Rock House across from the TV Towers and made it to Post 34 on the National Trail, which runs through the top of the South Mountain. After that, Ms. T. drove students to the Dobbins Look-out, elevation 2,300 ft, where they enjoyed spectacular view of Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Laveen, and Glendale.
On Christmas Day, 12/25/10 the residential students took a one mile hike on Judith Tunell Accessible Trail, which is located at the behind South Mountain Environmental Education Center. Students learned new interesting facts about desert life and, once again, were taken to the Dobbins look-out to enjoy clear view for dozens of miles around.
The best part of both hikes was that they were able to accommodate students with disabilities so that each of them was an inseparable part of the group.
