As part of the “Make a Difference Day,” students from the Phoenix Job Corps Center participated in the Oasis Project at the First United Methodist Church just blocks from the center. This project was sponsored and funded by the Watershed Management Group which is a non-for-profit organization that assists neighborhoods in creating self- sustaining landscapes from harvest rainwater. The students who participated in the project were assigned a section of the landscape project. They dug trenches and planted several trees, scrubs and wildflowers. They also participated in a workshop on how to create other sustainable landscape features. Watershed Project Coordinator, Tory Syracuse was impressed with the student volunteer’s commitment to the project. “Someday they’ll return to this section and see the difference they made in beatifying this not only this church but also this community.”
