Philadelphia Job Corps Students Do Their Part: “Pennies For Japan”

Philadelphia, PA – It has been since March the devastating Tsunami, struck Japan.  In the wake of this horrible tragedy there’s always something we can do.  To develop a greater awareness the students reflected and discussed personally what if this tragedy happened to them, their loved one or someone they new, what would they do?  The idea was born “pennies for japan” as a sense of commitment to community service large or small, whether down the street or around the world.  What followed was a relaxed center-wide effort.  An effort Initiated engaging student support in a fundraising activity including staff. The student government association (SGA) launched a ‘penny drive’ activity.  In addition to ‘pennies for Japan’ the building fund incorporated student and staff dress down day for a $l.00.   Students, by each trade, contributed pennies and staff contributed from pennies to a dollar. Over a period of 3 months @ 100 pennies per month 300 pennies were collected to be donated to Red Cross for distribution.
