Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia Job Corps Students and staff participated in the Academic Olympics in Columbia, Maryland, August 27th. Students competed against other job corps centers in various subject areas. Students and staff also interacted with and developed connections with students and staff from centers in other activities.
There were six young men representing Philadelphia at the Academic Olympics. Andre Ellerbee (Math), Andre Williams (Language Arts), Orlando Cottman (Science), Terrell Clemens (Spelling), Stephan DeShazo (Social Studies) and Richie Desaguste (Alternate) took turns in their respective areas competing against five other Job Corps centers. The young men demonstrated not only their individual talents, but also their ability to come together and work as a team. Our seventh student, Edward Blake, acted as a student coach, assisting his teammates during practices.
