Philadelphia, PA – Philadelphia Job Corps Life Science Institute Administrative Medical Assisting students, February 9th Shadow with City of Philadelphia Park & Recreation Commissioner and her staff in order to experience the workplace firsthand. “A life and a day with City of Philadelphia”. Groundhog Job Shadowing Day provided the unique opportunity to make the world of work come alive for our young adults. Students had the opportunity to see how academic and technical skills are applied in the workplace and all six (6) Medical Assistant students were inspired and motivated by successful adults at the city of Philadelphia Park & Recreation. Together with their assigned professional staffer, the students shadowing experience included attending and observing management meetings, internal conference calls, and lunch, In addition students had the opportunity to interview with popular a radio station host in a young adult panel discussion about, “stopping the violence”. These Job Corps Administrative Medical Assisting students had an opportunity to participate in a radio broadcast and be heard sharing their views on how to stop the violence. Marian Brown said “Groundhog Job Shadowing Day allowed us to see that adults care about our future and given the chance the adults will listen’. The students took pictures, and respectively wrote about their shadow experience. Ebony Brown says, “the visual and hands-on experience of what it takes to succeed in a profession or industry was worth it to see and I would like to do it again”!
