On Thursday July 28th, Professor Cheryl A. Robertson, Ed.D, College of Education and Human Development, brought her Student’s at Risk (SAR) 541 class of 7 graduate students to tour the Penobscot Job Corps Academy (PJCA). Professor Robertson is touring alternative educational institutions throughout the state as part of her SAR curriculum. Her current class is composed of area teachers, guidance counselors and social workers, many of whom had not visited PJCA prior. The tour was followed by a question and answer session with PJCA students in academic instructor Sara Stephens’s alternative High School Diploma classroom. The group ended their visit with a brunch in the Lion’s Den restaurant and gave some very positive feedback to the PJCA BCL Mike Jellison (also one of Professor Robertson’s graduate students). Also on the tour, and a first time visitor to PJCA, was Dr. Judith Jones, the Director and board member for the Maine Association for Charter Schools.
