Penobscot “Make’s a Difference” working on the Capehart Stream Restoration project

On Friday, October 21, 2011, the students and staff of the Penobscot Job Corps Academy (PJCA)  participated in Community Service projects throughout Eastern Maine in conjuction with America’s largest day of service, Make A Difference Day (Saturday, October 22, 2011). Facilities Maintenance Instructor Jim McGuinness and his students continued to work on the Capehart Stream Restoration project. This project is in collabaration with Wendy Warren and the City of Bangor to help address some environmental concerns in the Capehart area.  Initially our students have proudly built 24 rain barrels from recycled plastic drums. This project will take 2 years in total and the students are not just building the barrels. They will also set up the barrels in Capehart for the residents and then will  be involved with building rain gardens, attaching gutters, and planting some trees and plants. This is an amazing project for our students to be involved with, not only are they learning about the affects of waste in the water, but they are giving back to the Bangor community.
