The United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) pre-apprentices and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) pre- apprentices of the Paul Simon Chicago Job Corps Center participated in the Misericordia community service project. Every September, about 10 to 15of the UBC and 10 to 15 of the IUPAT pre- apprentices serve as community volunteers bringing their expertise to help the residents and staff prepare for the annual Misericordia Family Festival.
Misericordia is home to over 600 children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities. The carpentry pre-apprentices build shelves for the vendors who participate in the festival and the painting pre- apprentices paint the shelves, picnic tables, and fences. The PSCJCC students are always willing and available to give help to the residents and staff. “This gives the PSCJCC students opportunity to open their learning experience from classroom to actual work and to contribute to the community” stated our carpentry and painting instructors. Great job for a great cause!
