During this extended time without students we have taken it upon ourselves to not only improve physical aspects of the Center but internal ones as well. Our long standing PAUSE program has been extremely beneficial over the years but with anything it needs to evolve with the times. PAUSE (positive actions under stressful experience) has been a program that staff and students use to deescalate tense situations. We have found that it’s most effective when staff and students are both willing participants and understand the nature of PAUSE. During winter break the entire OJCA staff team train on how to implement PAUSE while the students learn about it when they arrive on Center. When students develop into more active leadership roles they are further trained by the SHRO department and the SGA advisor during Advanced Leadership training. This program is meant to be beneficial for those on Center but also to follow them home and to their future workplace. Learning the very important skills of self awareness, self control and self reflection are the fundamentals of PAUSE. To enhance the message we have created 100 new PAUSE posters with positive and reflective quotes for all Bulldogs to view. We are trying to create an environment of calm, restorative and critical thinking. Along with the posters we have new PAUSE swag that students and staff are able to earn by reciting the PAUSE Rap. This was created by several members of the Life Skills team and is meant to truly capture the spirit of PAUSE. Attached are pictures of the new PAUSE logo and some of the cozy clothes staff and students are working for.
