Oneonta Job Corps Academy provided 250+ Job Corps students with the opportunity to meet and talk to local recruiters at the first Military Recruitment Day, presented at the Oneonta Municipal Airport, on October 15, 2015. Representatives of the US Army, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, US Navy and the National Guard were on hand to speak to students about enlisting in the Armed Services. The Army was the hit of the day with the Rock Wall that they brought with them. The Air Force brought their mini-jet and a trailer full of information, giveaways and knowledgeable personnel. All of the recruiters, plus our own Military Cadet Program (MCP) students under the direction of Sgt. Jered Porter, participated in an Equestrian Military Tribute. The MCP color guard presented the colors while local horseman, Jeff Wilson, paid tribute to the Military performing a routine to “American Soldier”. The local recruiters did a short oath ceremony for their future soldiers, airmen and sailors. Positive feedback gives us reason to believe that more of our students are considering a military enlistment upon completion of their Job Corps program.
