Old Dominion volunteers for trail clean-up

On Thursday, April 7th Home Builders Institute’s Landscaping and Facilities Maintenance trades at Old Dominion Job Corps volunteered to ready the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail for Saturday’s, April 10, 2011, Piney River Mini Triathlon.

The students pruned anything that was hanging out into the trail, picked up trash and moved any other debris that could hinder the athletes.  The students enjoyed their day of volunteering.  The weather was spectacular and they were able to perform duties that they will be required to perform to complete their trades.

Volunteering and performing community service activities is a core value of the HBI and Job Corps programs.  The students enjoyed the change of scenery as well as the opportunity to use a number of the skills they have learned in their trades.

The event was organized through the Amherst County Department of Parks and Recreation.
