In January 2012 Old Dominion Job Corps Center’s GED/High School diploma program was ranked #3 in the nation. This information was shared with the attendees at our first Community Relations Committee Breakfast Meeting in 2012. As of February, our ranking moved to Number 1 nationally.
In attendance at this meeting was a young lady named Amy Trent, a reporter for the local newspaper in Lynchburg, Virginia, News and Advance. She was impressed with the ranking data Ms. Diane Brimijoin, academic manager, presented concerning the #3 ranking for the GED/HS diploma program. After the meeting adjourned she asked if I would give her the contact information for Ms. Brimijoin because she wanted to write an article about the accomplishment in the GED/HS diploma program.
Ms. Trent wrote her article and it was published on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in the Lynchburg, Virginia News and Advance’s Local and State section of the daily paper. It was a very impressive and positive article on our Center and we have received a great deal of positive feedback from the community.
Ms. Trent was impressed with our students and the work that goes on at our Job Corps center. She wants to do a feature article in the future on the center or on a student success story. We plan to assist her in this endeavor.
Congratulations to Ms. Diane Brimijoin for a job well done. We are proud of our standing in the Job Corps community, but we are most proud of the end result which is the students who have received their GED and high school diplomas. Thank you Diane for your dedication to our students and their educaitonal goals.
