In March 2010, Central Virginia Community College, Babcock & Wicox Nuclear Operations Group, and Old Dominion Job Corps Center signed a Memorandum of Understganding and formed a partnership to address the region’s shortage of machinists. On May 20, 2012, ten of the students in The Region 2000 Machine Industry Program (R2MIP) were honored when they graduated. Several of these students had jobs with prominent companies in the area before graduation through internships.
In March 2012 the MOU was renewed and the artnership continues. This program is a WIN-WIN for all concerned. Students rceive training in good paying jobs and companies get a steady stream of local employees trained to do the work.
