Student Voices in Action: North Texas Job Corps Engages in Advocacy with Congressional Staff

On February 26, 2026, North Texas Job Corps staff and students had the pleasure of meeting with Elena Glassman, Field Representative for Congressman Ronny Jackson, to discuss the impact of Job Corps. During the meeting, students shared their personal experiences in the program, highlighting the skills they have gained, the career pathways they are preparing for, and the opportunities Job Corps provides to young people across our region.

The conversation also served as an important moment of civic engagement and advocacy, giving students the opportunity to represent both their program and their community. Staff and students discussed Job Corps’ presence in North Texas, including its contributions to the local economy through workforce development, partnerships with local employers and its role in preparing the next generation of skilled professionals.

Opportunities like this demonstrate the power of advocacy and storytelling. When students and staff share their experiences directly with policymakers and their representatives, they help ensure that the value and impact of Job Corps are clearly understood. Continued advocacy is essential to protecting and strengthening programs like Job Corps so that future generations of young people can access the training, support, and opportunities they need to succeed.
