On March 27, North Texas Job Corps Business and Community Liaison Laura Bruton headed to Capitol Hill to visit with US representatives and their staff. The purpose of the visit was to share with elected officials the positive impact that North Texas Job Corps has on the students it serves, the local community, and its economy, and the dedicated people who are employed at the center. Also discussed were the need for continued government support of the Job Corps program and Horizons Youth Services’ best practices model of offering life and social skills programs that enhance the vocational training students receive at Job Corps and better prepare them for today’s competitive workplace.
during the day, Bruton met with Jonathan Jackson, legislative assistant for Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson; Congressman Ron Wright; Congresswoman Veronica Escobar; Congressman Van Taylor; Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee; and Thaddeus Woody, legislative aide for Congressman Marc Veasey.
