NORTH TEXAS JOB CORPS ATTENDS THE DALLAS BUILD EXPO
February 5th was a very special day at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, TX for five North Texas Job Corps students who are currently enrolled at NTJCC in the construction trade cluster. They were guest of the Dallas Build Expo that is a Building and Construction Show featuring exhibitors from architecture, design, finance, business and all the in-betweens. Some of the exhibitors were: OSHA, Trade Masters, RODS, HYDRO Mist, Champion Windows, Bath Fitter, Labor Finders, and James Martin Vanities. The sponsors for this event were the Build EXPO USA and Construction Monthly Magazine. The NTJCC Foundation Instructor, Felicia Winfrey, stated that “it was a great experience for our students to have the opportunity to discuss the construction industry innovations and designs with professionals. They were able to meet construction staffing representatives and discuss employment needs and opportunities. I was very pleased that our students were able to discuss the Job Corps program and recruitment with a vendor. I was most elated by the fact that employment agencies shared with me that they were attending the Build EXPO in hopes of meeting with trade schools.” The students had a range of comments Jordan (Carpentry) stated that “it was a great experience. It was helpful for people who have a trade or certification and need a job for their trade. Also, you could learn things that you can apply to your own life or surroundings.” Francisco (Plumbing) added that “the best part there was T-Mobile.” Donique (Building Construction Technology) stated that “the best thing was that I got to learn more about my trade and what I can make in my trade. Also what I can put in my house one of these days.” And lastly Trevor (Electrical) said “one of the best aspects of the field trip was getting the opportunity to meet different employers and the products they were advertising…The one that got my immediate attention was an electrical muscle relaxing machine that relaxes the tension in the body and makes new good feelings throughout the day.” It was a “great” experience for all!
