The Vergennes Opera House is the centerpiece of cultural and arts activities in the city of Vergennes, Vermont. As such, it regularly hosts musicians, plays, films as well as dinners, fundraisers and even weddings. With a capacity of 300, that means a lot of setting up and taking down of chairs and tables – not an easy task for the opera house’s two-person staff.
Enter students from Northlands Job Corps Academy. The volunteer groups Men of Distinction, Sisters of Distinction and Ladies of Success regularly come by to lend a hand moving the dozens of chairs and heavy tables around.
“Having the students from Job Corps come help us with event set-up has been a lifesaver,” said Eileen Corcoran, Executive Director of Friends of the Vergennes Opera House. “Their energy and pleasant attitudes are wonderful to have here. Thanks to everyone there for being such a great help to our community.”
Volunteering at the Opera House is just one more way students at Northlands make a difference in Vergennes and beyond.
