Students and Staff Collaborate on Northlands Memorial Day Parade Float

A work in progress: From concept, to structure, to painting, the Northlands Memorial Day Parade float begins to take shape.

Billed as the largest Memorial Day parade in the state of Vermont, the Vergennes parade will once again feature a float created by Northlands Job Corps Academy students and staff. Adopting the parade’s theme of “Forget Me Not,” the conceptual design for the float was created by instructor Susan Noyes. Carpentry instructor Todd Lossmann with the assistance of student James Lane built the structure, and students Molly West-Rosenthal, Grace Coon and Jose Ramos provided their artistic talents in painting the float.

The well known 90-minute parade is sponsored by the Vergennes American Legion, and begins a day-long series of events that draws families from all around Vermont and beyond.
