Student Spotlight—John McQuade

Northlands welding student John McQuade is on his way to Texas to pursue advanced training in the Carman/Machinist Program at Gary Job Corps Center.

What does this mean to John? It means he’ll learn the essential skills and knowledge to work in the lucrative railroad industry. In fact, when he completes the program in six months to a year, the Transportation Communications International Union/International Association of Machinists will help him find a job—one that pays very well!

“I like to work with my hands, and I like to work hard,” John says. “Being a Carman/Machinist is a stable union job that pays good money. It’s a great way to start my life.”

John says staying focused on his career helped him succeed at Job Corps. “If you want to be worth something, you gotta try hard.”
