(L-R) Representative Diane Lanpher reviews the process of how legislation in Vermont is made; a visit with Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott; with historian Flo Young in the Cedar Creek room; outside the beautiful building in downtown Montpelier.
Members of Northlands’ Student Government Association traveled to the Vermont State Capitol in Montpelier Friday to see firsthand how legislators conduct the people’s business.
Representative Diane Lanpher from Vergennes was kind enough not only to bring the entourage of seven students and two advisors to the Senate and House chambers, but she introduced them on the floor of the Vermont House! It was a great honor and something not soon forgotten.
The students were then given a tour by historian Flo Young through the beautiful state capitol building. One of the highlights was the stunning Cedar Creek room, featuring a towering painting celebrating Vermont’s role in a decisive Civil War battle.
It was a great experience to witness the Vermont legislature in action, and to meet many of the key people working on our behalf.
