The non-profit store Sweet Charity has a long history of helping people in the Vergennes, Vermont community. Started by the group Women of Wisdom, the store sells donated used items to create a funding source for Hospice Volunteer Services and other organizations in the city.
Every Thursday, two students from Northlands Job Corps Academy volunteer to help move donated items and arrange products in the store to make way for new acquisitions. A recent Thursday had Gentlemen of Success members Jayvon Soares and Jordan Lareau moving boxes throughout the store’s vast basement area.
Joyce Hawes, a volunteer at Sweet Charity, had nothing but praise for the Northlands students. “They have a great attitude and are very positive,” she said. “They never complain when asked to do a task and get right to it. It’s been fun to have them around!”
Jayvon agreed, wiping sweat from his forehead. “It’s a nice way to help out,” he said.
