(Officials from the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, Northlands Job Corps Academy and the City of Vergennes stand behind the donated table.)
Students in the Northlands Job Corps Academy carpentry program crafted and donated a picnic table to the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad last night.
The donation highlights a budding relationship between the two organizations. Currently, two Northlands students volunteer with VARS as volunteer EMTs. A third student who is studying for her EMT certification serves as a first responder. Northlands Executive Assistant Christina Brace serves as Secretary for the squad.
Beginning in October, first responder classes will be offered at the rescue squad for up to twelve people. Eight members of each class will be Northlands students.
The table was built by students TJ Reed and Dustin Mott. A custom hand inscription was performed by student Jenna Colucy.
