The Diversity committee at Northlands Job Corps is busy, busy, busy. A group of 7 students represent the diverse student population and they want to help other students learn about the different cultures.
Northlands has a very diverse population. We have students from Virgin Islands, Nepal, New York City, the rural areas from Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. A number of students come from totally different backgrounds and some of our rural students have had little contact with different populations.
A diversity committee was established on center and in the past has planned a multi cultural talent show which was very well received.
This year Diversity Day is planned for August 27th, 2010. In the morning workshops will be offered for students, to make them aware of the vast different cultures and customs represented here at Northlands. A lunch menu is being planned with different appetizers , main meals and desserts from ten different cultures for the entire week. After lunch more workshops are planned followed by games in the afternoon.
Students will be representing the academy at the Vergennes Day Celebration on August 28, 2010, to inform the community about the academy’s diverse population
