On a recent visit to Northlands Job Corps Academy in Vergennes, Representatives from Senator Leahy’s office were impressed with the new Hybrid car and Diagnostic equipment.
A recently acquired training hybrid vehicle is the newest addition to the Northlands’ NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation)-certified Auto Technology shop. With the assistance of local dealers, Denecker Chevrolet in Vergennes and Shearer Chevrolet in South Burlington, a brand new Malibu hybrid and state of the art diagnostic equipment are now available for student training. Career Technical Training Instructor, Chuck Brighenti, says “This new training is invaluable to my students as they prepare for jobs in the greener automotive industry.” Students are trained on hybrid maintenance and repair with an emphasis on safety.
Students receive OSHA-10 safety certification as part of their training and can obtain S/P 2 certification for environmentally friendly practices in auto repair, and other “green” certifications. With the current trends in Green Cars and Practices, this training program makes our graduates more employable.
