Northlands Academic All-Stars Shine in Regional Competition

A team of six students from Northlands Job Corps Center recently won second place at the Job Corps Regional Academic Olympics district competition in Wilmington, Delaware. The team included Dustin Tallman, Nathan June, Jeff Torres, Jose Ramos, Delita Rhymer and Hannah Williams along with co-coach Gaye Ann Thompson.

The Academic Olympics competition features questions from GED competency materials and covers language arts, science, mathematics, spelling, and current events. Each team consists of five competitors and an alternate. A total of 36 teams competed in district competitions at 6 different Job Corps centers in 5 different states.

“The Academic Olympics is an opportunity for our students to learn how to work as part of a team while they are challenged academically,” said Academic Instructor Susan Noyes. “I was extremely impressed by the enthusiasm and knowledge our students displayed during the competition.”
