Levi Gannon is our Student of the Week for August 2-8. Levi was about to start his training in the culinary trade when life as we know it was interrupted by COVID 19. After taking a respite during Spring Break and biking around Vermont, Levi has become a serious long-distance learner. With the support of math instructor, Dan Nolan, Katie Gorton in culinary and his family; Levi got set up to access his learning online. Now, Levi uses Google Meeting to work with his reading instructor, Ms. Laura twice a week and meets weekly with his math instructor. He has diligently been completing mailed packets from Ms. Deb and gaining credit on his TAR as he returns them. Kudos to Levi for using this time away to jump-start his new trade and make progress in his education!
Juan Solero is our Student of the Week for August 9-15. Juan is currently on Center and back to work in Auto Tech where he has been working hard advancing in his trade. His performance in academics has been exemplary and he has always been known for having a positive attitude. Juan has been a very outgoing student on Center and believes in teamwork both in his trade and recreation activities. You can find Juan on the basketball court every night, or playing pool – he is the current reigning champion at pool, and has won six pool tournaments so far. Juan has been a very helpful student on Center when it comes to lending a helping hand to students and staff. We are glad to have him back! Congratulations Juan!!!!!
Mirage Fernandez is our Student of the Week for August 16-22. Mirage is a friendly, outgoing, hands-on young lady. She’s an eager worker and a good listener, which is key in helping her achieve her goal of Journeyman Carpenter. She fell in love with the carpentry trade the minute she shadowed it. For her, it brought back memories of helping her grandfather when she was younger. He taught her how to use various tools of the trade and let her be hands on under his direction. Little did she know back then that someday she would follow in his footsteps! Mirage also knows her way around a kitchen, as she worked in her Aunt’s diner growing up. She learned customer service while waiting on tables, and also did some cooking behind the scenes. She learned good work ethics, and how to be a part of a team. The skills she learned there are certainly cross-over skills that she will use all her life. Combining these acquired skills with her Job Corps training program should help propel her to her goal of Journeyman Carpenter within 4 to 6 years. You go girl!
