Taste of the Town: New Orleans Talkin’ Culinary on the Radio

“In sports, you hear coaches talk about “Just put us in a position to win. We’re trying to take young people from low-income backgrounds and put them in a position to succeed – to win in life,” New Orleans BCL Randy Savoie told Kevin Fitzwilliam Saturday morining on WGSO Radio. “When you place these students around the Susan Spicers of the world (Executive Chef at Bayona), you’re giving them the chance to succeed.”

The “All Things Local” radio show focused on employment in the New Orleans food industry and Savoie said “Our Culinary program is one that we are especially proud of. Of course, (there’s) no greater food city in the country than New Orleans. I saw one of our graduates yesterday who is about to start working in the kitchen at the Hotel Monteleone. One of our Culinary graduates was recently promoted to a hiring manager position at a local food supply company.”

Savoie talked about the Center’s new relationship with Centerplate, the leading food provider to the NFL and the food services provider of the New Orleans Convention Center and Louisiana Superdome.

“We are trying to align ourselves with these master, world-class chefs unique to New Orleans. What a great opportunity for our young people to receive training from the very best in the profession.”
