NOLA Job Corps Students Volunteer in Super Bowl Park

Super Bowl XLVII was the 3rd most watched television program of all time, and an incredible live experience for 70,000 at the stadium; 90,000 at NFL Experience, and hundreds of thousands at Super Bowl Boulevard and New Orleans Job Corps students helped make it happen.

LeShonda McCall said volunteering for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans was, “overwhelming…it was awesome. I saw a lot of superstars.” The Health Occupation Technology student donated ten volunteer hours over two days for the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation. LeShonda was joined by fellow students- Lequana Shaw and Steven Davis. Administrative Assistant Terry Jupiter and BCL Randy Savoie joined the students last week in lending a hand at Super Bowl Park and the NFL Experience.

“My job was to hand out Super Bowl Fan guides and assist visitors in finding restaurants and special events,” said Lequana Shaw, Vice President of the The Center’s  Leadership Council (TLC). “Cafe duMonde (famous for its beignets and chicory coffee) was by far and away the place most people asked me about. As far as celebrities, I had the chance to see Dan Marino, who was just one block away, and Sheryl Underwood from the CBS daytime show “The Talk.”

Lequana also had a brush with chance simply by chance when she was approached  by a Verizon film crew filming a commercial about the Verizon 4g LTE device she was using to provide visitors with directions around the French Quarter. Added LeShonda McCall: ” Seeing everybody so happy and excited and enjoying our city and being a part of the Super Bowl volunteer team was an experience I will never forget for the rest of my life. “
