Thanks to the Facility Maintenance (FM) Students at new Hampshire Job Corps Center, the new Barbeque Pit is almost ready for the cookouts to begin. The class project is lead by FM Trade Instructor, Mr. Saxmen. Although the construction is essential in the creation of the BBQ pit, we cannot forget about all the skills that the students needed to use in order to complete this massive undertaking. To start, students need to know their math skills in order to create the area, the forms, the angles and how they all come together in order to begin building. Without math, there is no plan to build. Students also needed to use their employability skills to work in collaboration, take and follow direction, and to work to the standards that are expected. I had the pleasure of observing these students work with Mr. Saxmen yesterday, and work they did. The communication was effective and respectful and the team work was remarkable.
