Muhlenberg Job Corps Heavy Equipment Operator students have partnered with the Muhlenberg County Habitat for Humanity. The students will use their training in heavy equipment operation to backfill an old basement on a lot that will be used for the new Habitat for Humanity house. Students will not only backfill the basement, but will also clear and level the lot and dig the foundation footers.
This will be the sixth house the Job Corps students have worked on since their link with the Habitat for Humanity program in Muhlenberg County began. The first house built was built on the Muhlenberg Job Corps campus in two sections and was transported to the permanent building site for construction. Students have worked on such areas as roofing, siding, plumbing, electrical as well as the current site preparation.
Instuctor, John Austin says, “Working with Habitat on site preparation is perfect on the job training for our students. An additional plus is the students get to give back to the Muhlenberg County community that has been a great supportor of our Job Corps program for many years!” Job Corps centers all across the nation are involed in worthwhile community service work with wonderful organizations like Habitat for Humanity each day of the week.
